The year is 1585 and the Virgin Queen has been on the throne for almost thirty years. She has refused her last suitor, the French prince Francis, Duke of Anjou, who was her "Frog". She has maintained England's status as a Protestant power. She has grown old, but still has the hearts of her people wrapped around her little finger. She has sent the first group of English colonists to the New World, led by one of her favorites at court, the handsome and well-spoken Sir Walter Raleigh, with the aim of doing as Spain did and becoming overwhelmingly rich from New World gold. It is a Golden Age for all who have the Queen's favor.
All is not well, however. The Catholic powers in Europe resent the burgeoning influence of England, and each has their own bone to pick with the island nation. France is displeased that despite the gifts heaped upon the aging Queen (and the fact that they deigned to offer her one of their own even when she is so old and likely past the age of bearing children) including an extremely valuable Dragon Egg
