[Sir Barnaby Howard]

Most players will be part of a formation, or unit, of dragons in the Royal Air Corps. This formation consists of a set grouping of dragons that undertake training and manoeuvres together. To claim one of these you can choose any dragon breed you like unless already specified. Pray choose an English breed. If you want something else, please PM me.

Heavyweights are commonly used for heavy combat and carry larger crews and guns. Some are even capable of carrying cannon in their belly-rigging.
Midweights are also capable of carrying guns, though not so many or as heavy as the larger dragons.
Lightweights generally are used for quick-flying missions such as spying, scouting, and running messages.

The Captain positions are full. Crew positions are open for Zack and April's heavyweights, as well as Marie's Longwing and Jon's Berghexe.

If you aren't keen on having a dragon, you can always be a part of a crew attached to the dragons. Children as young as 13 are often made midwingmen and ensigns on dragonback, as one is generally raised to become a dragon captain, much as one is raised in the navy. Of course, positions can often be got through one's family influence or the Queen's favor (just look at the Lord Admiral Dudley, after all).

It's Zack. After some research, I'm going with Kazilik as my breed. I know it's a Turkish breed, but as hunting Turkish and Barbary pirates was a national pastime back then, I think I can justify it. Otherwise I'll go with a Cauchador Real.

I don't think a Kazilisk would be so easy to get. I really don't recommend taking a dragon that isn't a standard British breed unless you've got a damned good backstory to sell me on or theyre just a standard type of dragon. Canonically, the British didn't manage to get their hands on a fire-breather until the 1800s.

That said, I can totally see a Cauchador Real, especially if the egg came from Spain while Philip II was married to Mary I. The eggs can take several years to hatch but don't take too long to mature fully.

Well the Britiah navy has a pretty storied history of conflict with Ottoman corsairs during this period. The plan was that my guy was a privateer captain before finding an egg in the hold of a sacked sultanate ship.

In fact, some British renegades became Barbary pirates, working for the Turkish sultan before accepting contracts from mother England again later. The most famous of these was the English corsair Henry Mainwaring who later returned to England with a royal pardon, was knighted, elected to Parliament and appointed a vice admiral of the Royal Navy.

So it wouldn't be too hard to justify a British captain with a Turkish dragon.

No, it wouldn't, but despite all the toying with canon we are doing, there were no fire-breathers in England before Iskierka in the early 1th century.

If you want a different Turkish dragon, the Akhal-Teke is a middleweight.

Kaziliks are pretty special in the dragon world.  Wiki confirms:

Kaziliks are perhaps the most valuable of all heavyweight combat dragons (Celestials do not typically fight), with the British paying the Turks nearly half a million pounds for a single egg (making it nearly 10 times more valuable than a Regal Copper egg).

Without reading the books, it's hard to stress how significant it was that Britain got their hands on a Kazilik after failing to get any kind of fire breather prior to that.  Such highly prized dragons aren't likely to be let go under any but the most special circumstances.

It would have been stolen at sword point, not "let go" but so be it. Would have worked well with the character concept, but I'll figure something out. Had a perfect roman name to go with it too.

I'm sure you would have and I trust you to do the concept justice but I just can't go against the canon I set like that.

My issue is that if during the course of game RP a player manages to buy or steal a firebreather egg or kill a forebreather's rider and capture the dragon; what are you going to do? Say that that's against canon so they can't have it? As I said, I'll choose something else, but that seems like it could be a can of worms down the road. You have to be open to your players changing the canon history, otherwise there's not much point in playing of things are already set in stone.
